At Los Lunas smiles, we believe that knowledge is power when it comes to patient education. Here, we’ll explore just a few of the most common questions we hear at our practice.

During your initial consultation, our team will gather necessary information regarding your oral health. In addition to a visual exam, we may also take dental x-rays, photos, impressions, or perform other diagnostic treatments. Once we have all the facts, we’ll design a treatment plan tailored to your individuals needs. To learn more about what to expect at your first visit, read our new patient information page.
Many patients want to know if they really need preventative care if they brush and floss every day. The truth is, at-home hygiene only does so much. It keeps oral bacteria at bay for a few months, but the only way to thoroughly clean hard-to-reach areas is through a professional dental cleaning. We also offer fluoride treatments and dental sealants to give your smile an added layer of protection from cavities.
The answer to this question can vary for each individual. Many patients benefit from cleanings twice a year. However, those who are predisposed to gum disease or decay may require more frequent appointments. During a consultation at our office, your dentist can talk with you about a cleaning schedule that’s right for you.
Yes! As long as you’re healthy and free from any medical condition that could cause complications, you can be sedated for treatment at Los Lunas Smiles. We offer two options, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or oral sedation. The option that’s right for you will depend on your unique needs and preferences. We can talk with you about your options during your next appointment. Learn more about sedation dentistry.
Dental emergencies can be scary. But if you know how to handle them, you can reduce stress and act efficiently when and if you’re ever faced with one. The first thing you should do is call our office for further instructions. If a tooth is broken, try to locate the fragments and bring them with you to our office. If a tooth has been knocked out, find the tooth, rinse it off, and place it back in its socket. If this isn’t possible, soak the tooth in saline or milk and bring it with you to your appointment.
The American Dental Association recommends making your child’s first dental appointment by age one, or when the first tooth erupts. Introducing your child to the dental office at an early age can help set them up for success later on. We offer a wide range of preventative and restorative treatments for the entire family.
